1,2,3,4 Tell me that you love me more......

I don't know where to start with this blog post....It's come about because last night on my Facebook page I did a link to a tagging game and participated in it as well.  For those that are not familiar with this concept, it's about trying to make others aware of your business, by in a sense doing a chain letter for want of a better term...to get people to like your page.

That said, it's something that I've never done before and I think it actually surprised a few people.  I did it purely because I had set up a shop to sell my hats on a new website and they suggest you participate in these type of games & market nights etc because it's good for their publicity and it gets your brand/business out there....well it's done and it really doesn't sit well with me at all. I won't be participating again. I got 20 new fans and already 2 of them have gone because I didn't feel the need to like their pages back, and this is where I get annoyed.

I want people to like Dover & Madden because they want to, they like my work, they appreciate what I do, they want to learn something at my page or my blog....I'm sure half those people who liked my page last night didn't even look at what I do but I certainly made sure that I looked at what they did and only liked those pages that held some sort of interest to me....In my book you like a page or become a  fan of a page because you want to be part of it, you appreciate what the seller does, not just to make up numbers.

I have quoted this many times before and I will continue to quote it as this still sticks in my memory.  It was told to me by Jen at the Pikelet Workshop.  "It's not about the number of fans you have, it's about the relationships formed with those fans."

I am so lucky that I have a loyal fan base (for want of a better term)  I love the fact that at anytime when I post something, one of so many lovelies will always comment or like....There is always a Jen, Amber, Rebecca, Cassie, Sheryl, Mira, Erica, Melissa, Denise, Joy, Jo, Jewel, Kim, Sarah, Roberta, Anne, Elise, Krissy, Genna, Adele, Marilia, Karen, Jana, Justina, Kelly, Beck, Hana, Bree, Sarah, Maureen & Maryanne and so many others that always know how to make me smile when I do a post...and you know what, I often look at so many other businesses and they just don't appear to have that banter that I love, so Jen you are so spot on.

So I'm happy to grow my business organically, and leave the tagging games to others, it has a place but not  with me....I also base my business on the number of sales, not the number of fans....and Dover & Madden does pretty well indeed and hopefully will continue to do so in the future.

So there you go, it's not about the numbers.....It's more about the love!!

Cat on a Hot Tiled Floor

It's been stinking hot here in Melbourne for the last few days. We are officially in Summer but the days had been beautiful and mild around 25c/77f......and in the space of a few days we've jumped to 40c/108f and I think it has thrown everyone for six.....we're into our third day of above 35c/99f temperatures....I hate the hot weather....and so does Audrey the super cat.

I really feel for furry animals on hot days, although Audrey has a knack of finding the coolest place to lie....yesterday I had the back door open slightly on the chain and she just lolled around there all day....just lying with the tiniest little breeze filtering through the door and under the door....she doesn't go outside, she's an indoor cat and I'm sure in her little head yesterday, she was very thankful for that.

Some things you should know about Audrey....She's a deliciously fat British Shorthair and she is about 16yrs of age.  She likes chewing plastic, fresh laundry, lying on knitting patterns, corn on the cob and ham.

She hates vacuum cleaners, other cats, fish flavoured cat food, rain and Coronation Street.

You Read it Here First.....

I used to be an avid reader.  Since starting d&m, reading has become a thing of the past...I occasionally listen to a talking book on my iPod, but my mind tends to wander....there is something about reading the words and turning the pages that keeps me entranced.  I also love reading a book that grips you, or fills your mind and thoughts, or you find yourself saying "I'll just read one more chapter" and you know when you get to the last page you're kind of sad that it has come to an end.

I miss reading in a big way.

Challenging Times Ahead........

Happy New Year one and all....I'll make this short.  I'm not a photographer but like a lot of photographers I'm setting myself a challenge.....to make one blog post every day for the next 366 days.  It may be just one photo and a few words and it will be about something that I've done during the day that I've seen, enjoyed, eaten, drank, made, worn etc etc.  You probably get the drift....So here we go.....the blanket that I had been making that I classified here as one of my many WIP, the pastel blanket...merino, cashmere and silk.  I pulled it back out to have another go at completing it,  I just kept looking at it and not really liking it....too many holes and I wasn't really loving the Granny Square element of it, in my mind the yarn was not the right yarn for this type of blanket, too much silk in it and it too bouncy and holey!!

I firstly had tried the join as you go square method....unravelled that, then moved onto a typical Granny Square border and hated it just as much so I frogged the whole thing and just went with a Pastel Bullseye.  I love this blanket and now I'm loving the new pastel one....so hopefully by the end of January it will be done....just like my first post for the New Year.
